Beaver County was provided an opportunity to participate in the Climate Resilience Express project through collaboration with Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC) and the All One Sky Foundation.
On November 9, 2017, various stakeholders within Beaver County gathered together to participate in a workshop designed to look at:
- Observed impacts, climate trends and projections
- Climate risks and opportunities for Beaver County
- Climate Resilience Actions and Implementation
From this workshop 13 climate related risks and one climate related opportunity were identified, of which three risk were judged to be priorities:
- Reduced water availability
- Wildland fires
- Freeze -Thaw Cycles
Actions were then identified and discussion occurred around the implementation of these actions to ensure that Beaver County remains resilient under a wider range of potential future climate conditions.
The Action plan that was created from this workshop and other research is a living document and should be periodically reviewed and updated to ensure it remains relevant and effective for the municipality.
