Paragon Theatre Update
As some of you may already know, we must share some sad news about the Paragon Theatre. Following last summer's flood, which led to its closure, and subsequent advice from our insurance company regarding the unsafe roof, Administration and Council have been diligently exploring all possible avenues to move forward. We engaged an engineering firm to assess the situation and outline repair options. Unfortunately, these ranged from basic fixes that would repair some critical items but wouldn't address flood damage, to comprehensive repairs that would cost between $800,000 and $1 million. A third, heartrending option was to demolish the building and seek alternative ways to support the valued organizations that called the Paragon home.
After much consideration and with deep regret, at the February 21st Council Meeting, Council made the difficult decision to proceed with the demolition of the Paragon Theatre. This decision was not made lightly, and we share in the sadness this brings to our community. We are committed to exploring new avenues to support the arts and community groups affected by this loss.
