Collaborative Partnerships

 

Beaver Regional Partnership Advances

  • Council passed the first reading of Bylaw #24-1158 to establish the Beaver Regional Partnership. To strengthen this collaboration, Council proposed amendments to include representation from key regional boards such as the Beaver Emergency Services Commission and the Highway 14 Regional Water Services Commission. Additionally, Council urged all members to review an intermunicipal roles and responsibilities report to build stronger partnerships.

 

Sustainable Infrastructure

 

Road Maintenance Agreement Renewed

  • Council approved an updated shared services agreement with the Town of Tofield for road maintenance. This agreement reinforces the County’s commitment to maintaining high-quality infrastructure through cooperative efforts with neighbouring municipalities.

 

Responsible Finance

 

Funding Watershed Stewardship

  • Council endorsed a grant formula of up to $0.60 per capita to fund watershed stewardship initiatives. This increase from the previous $0.50 per capita, which had been in place since 2006, reflects the growing importance of environmental sustainability and support for watershed health. Funds will be allocated between the North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance (80%) and the Battle River Watershed Alliance (20%).

 

Lifestyle Enhancement

 

Agricultural Scholarship Awarded

  • The Agricultural Service Board Scholarship for 2024 was awarded to Avery Stevenson, highlighting the County’s dedication to supporting youth and promoting education in agriculture.

 

Holiday Decorating Contest Announced

  • Council is inviting residents to join in the holiday spirit by participating in a December-long Holiday Decorating Contest. Winners will be selected in January, bringing festive cheer and encouraging community engagement.

 

Supporting Local Health Foundations

  • Council approved grants of $6,800 for the Viking Health Foundation and $13,200 for the Tofield and Area Health Services Foundation. To address broader concerns, Council also directed the Reeve to send a letter to MLA Lovely advocating for better health funding and improved services in the region.

 

Tofield 4-H Support

  • Council approved a $2,500 operating grant for Tofield 4-H through the Community Support Grant Program, recognizing the organization's valuable contributions to local youth development and leadership.

 

Strong Governance

 

Planning for 2025: Interim Budget Review

  • Administration presented the 2025 Interim Budget Binder to Council, marking the beginning of budget discussions to prioritize financial goals and County initiatives for the coming year.

 

Strong Leadership

 

Election Officials Appointed

  • Council appointed Margaret Jones as Returning Officer and Meagan Walsh as Substitute Returning Officer to oversee the 2025 municipal election, ensuring the process is well-prepared and efficient.

 

Council Stays Involved in the Community

  • Council members participated in a range of events, including the Rural Municipalities of Alberta Conference, a public hearing, and Remembrance Day ceremonies.
